Guide to Enabling the Weapon Multi-Hit Feature on a Project Zomboid Server
By default in Project Zomboid, melee weapon attacks (melee weapon) such as axes, crowbars, or baseball bats can only hit one zombie target per swing. The Multi-Hit feature allows one slash or strike of a weapon to hit several zombies at once within the character's swing range.
This feature is highly sought after on multiplayer servers to provide more responsive combat dynamics and help players survive a zombie horde.
Step 1: Open the SandboxVars.lua File
- Log in to the Raznar panel.
- Select your Project Zomboid server, open the Files menu, then go into the
.cache>Serverdirectory. - Open the
Pterodactyl_SandboxVars.luafile.
Step 2: Configure the MultiHitZombies Parameter
In the Pterodactyl_SandboxVars.lua file, use the search shortcut (Ctrl + F) to find the MultiHitZombies parameter:
MultiHitZombies = false,
Change its value to true:
MultiHitZombies = true,
Make sure the comma (,) at the end of the line is preserved so it does not trigger a script initialization failure by the server.
Related Combat Mechanic Parameters (Optional)
Besides the Multi-Hit feature, administrators can adjust several parameters supporting combat mechanics in the same file:
1. Rear Attack Vulnerability Level
RearVulnerability = 3,
Determines the fatality probability of a zombie bite when attacking a character from a rear angle:
1= Low (Low bite chance, clothing armor is more effective)2= Medium (Standard)3= High (Highly vulnerable to fatal bites from behind)
Adjusting Combat Damage in Pterodactyl.ini
For combat between players (PvP), the weapon damage multiplier values can be adjusted in the Pterodactyl.ini file in the .cache/Server/ directory:
PVPMeleeDamageModifier=30.0
PVPFirearmDamageModifier=50.0
PVPMeleeWhileHitReaction=false
PVPMeleeDamageModifier: The damage amount multiplier for melee attacks between players.PVPFirearmDamageModifier: The damage multiplier for firearm shots between players.PVPMeleeWhileHitReaction=false: Determines whether a player can immediately launch a counterattack while taking a hit from another player.
Step 3: Save the Configuration and Reload the Server
- Click the Save File button in the bottom right corner of the editor.
- Open the Console menu in the Raznar panel, then click the Restart button.
- Once the server is operating again, all melee weapons that have the wide swing attribute can automatically damage up to 2-3 zombies in one slash.
