How to Configure Valheim World Difficulty and Modifiers

Valheim has a World Modifiers feature that lets you change server world rules, such as allowing iron ore to be carried through portals, increasing harvest yields up to 3x, or disabling monster attacks on your home (raids).

This guide explains the most popular modifiers and how to apply them on a Raznar server.

List of Favorite and Most-Used Modifiers

You can pick and combine several of the modifiers below to suit your play style:

By default, metal ore (such as copper, tin, and iron) cannot be carried through teleportation portals. You can change this rule:

  • -modifier portals casual: Allows all types of metal to be carried through portals. You no longer have to waste time sailing far just to bring mining results home.
  • -modifier portals normal: Standard rule (metal cannot pass through portals).
  • -modifier portals hard: Disables the portal teleportation function entirely in the world.

2. Resource Abundance / Harvest Yields (Resources)

Controls the amount of wood, stone, mining materials, and crops obtained when gathering materials:

  • -modifier resources muchmore: Mining, tree, and harvest yields increase 3x.
  • -modifier resources more: Harvest yields increase 1.5x.
  • -modifier resources normal: The game's standard default amount.

3. Monster Attacks on Bases (Raids)

Controls the frequency of monster attack events (such as Troll or Goblin attacks) on your base:

  • -modifier raids none: Disables all enemy raid events on bases. Your home buildings will always be safe from being destroyed by monsters while you are away adventuring.
  • -modifier raids muchless: Monster attacks on bases become very rare.
  • -modifier raids normal: The game's standard default frequency.

4. Penalty When a Character Dies (Death Penalty)

  • -modifier deathpenalty casual: The most relaxed mode. A dead character does not drop carried items, and skill levels do not decrease at all.
  • -modifier deathpenalty veryeasy: Items still drop at the gravestone, but the skill level reduction is small (about 1%).
  • -modifier deathpenalty normal: The game standard (loses 5% skill levels and items drop at the place of death).

5. Enemy Strength Level (Combat)

  • -modifier combat easy: Enemy attacks are weaker and monsters have less health.
  • -modifier combat normal: Standard difficulty level.
  • -modifier combat hard: Enemies have more health and hit harder.

Instant World Presets

If you do not want to configure everything one by one, Valheim provides ready-to-use preset packages:

  • -preset casual: A relaxed package (portals allow metal, no monster raids on bases, and a very light death penalty).
  • -preset hammer: Creative mode (build structures and furniture for free without needing raw materials).

How to Apply Modifiers on the Raznar Panel

  1. Open your browser and log in to the Raznar panel.
  2. Go to the Console menu, then click Stop to shut down the server.
  3. Open the Startup menu (or the server variable settings menu).
  4. Find the field named ADDITIONAL_ARGS (or the Modifiers / Additional Arguments field).
  5. Enter the modifier text you want, separated by spaces.
    • Example Relaxed Configuration:
-modifier portals casual -modifier resources muchmore -modifier raids none
  6. Return to the Console menu, then click Start to start the server.
  7. Once the server is active, the new world rules will be applied immediately in-game.
