How to Move a Valheim World Save from PC to Server

This guide explains how to move the map, buildings, and world progress you have already created on your local PC (singleplayer or co-op) to a Raznar server so you can play it online with friends 24 hours a day.

2 Important Valheim World Save Files

Every Valheim world has two main files that belong together:

  • <WorldName>.db: Contains all island changes, base buildings, and chest item positions.
  • <WorldName>.fwl: Contains the seed, world name, and map generation information.

(Note: In Valheim version 1.0 and above, these two files are sometimes already stored neatly inside a single folder named after your world).

Step 1: Get the World Save Files from Your PC

  1. On your PC keyboard, press the Windows + R key combination.
  2. Enter the following command, then press Enter:
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
(If the worlds_local folder is empty, check the worlds folder in the same directory).
  3. Find the world file you want to move. Make sure you copy a matching pair of files:
    • YourWorldName.db
    • YourWorldName.fwl
  4. Save a copy of both files to a temporary folder on your PC desktop.

Step 2: Upload the Save Files to the Raznar Server

  1. Open your browser and log in to the Raznar panel.
  2. Go to the Console menu, then click Stop to shut down the server first.
  3. Open the Files menu.
  4. Go to the Valheim data storage folder:
    .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/
(If the .config or worlds_local folder does not exist yet, start the server once and turn it off again, or create the folders manually).
  5. Upload the YourWorldName.db and YourWorldName.fwl files into that worlds_local folder.

Step 3: Match the World Name in the Startup Menu

The Raznar server must be pointed to the world name you just uploaded:

  1. In the Raznar panel, open the Startup menu (or the server settings menu).
  2. Find the variable named WORLD_NAME (or World Name).
  3. Change its value to exactly match your world file name (without the .db or .fwl extension).
    • Example: If your file is named VikingWorld.db, set WORLD_NAME to:
      VikingWorld
(Pay attention to uppercase and lowercase letters so you do not make a mistake).

Step 4: Start the Server and Try Joining

  1. Open the Console menu in the Raznar panel.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Watch the log in the Console. The server will show a message that your world was loaded successfully (for example: Loaded world ...).
  4. Open Valheim on your PC, join your server, and make sure your old buildings and islands have loaded perfectly.
